Peace Festival

The Peace Festival Secretariat is established by the African Centre for Peace Building to oversee its annual Peace Festival Event which is to be celebrated in December of every year. The event aims at bringing together people from diverse cultures and origins, education and religion to display their cultures and capabilities towards national development through peace building.
The event targets people of all ages especially the youth (13-35 year of age) from various institutions across the country-Ghana and Africa.
Objectives of the Programme:
  • To equip the youth to become effective peace educators through the workshops
  • To provide opportunity for the youth to finding solutions to societal problems through project completion. (the best projects would be implemented)
  • To showcase African rich culture and having fun
  • To bring together people of diverse cultural origin to live together as one and show their commitment towards living in peace and unity
  • To provide the platform for our sponsors to showcase their products
The participants would be camped for 3-5days with various activities including:
  • Conferences and Workshops on Peace, Conflicts, Leadership and Development
  • Games for Peace
  • Health and Peace Walks
  • Presentation and Awards
  • Projects and Debate Competition
  • Lectures
  • Video shows on conflicts situations in Africa
  • Cultural Displays Drama and Debate Competition among others
The Secretariat is currently planning to celebrate celebrate the 1st Peace Festival in Ghana, 13-18 of December 2011. The Secretariat has proposed University of Ghana campus in Accra the capital city of Ghana for the event. Participants would be accommodated and fed three meals a day though out the programme.

Online Volunteering:
Online Project Work Supervisors: Certificate of Teaching Mastery in Peace Education
The Centre needs online Volunteers who would serve as Project Work Supervisor for candidates in our up-coming Certificate of Teaching Mastery in Peace Education Programme-CTMPE.
Duties of the Online Volunteer Supervisors:
Participant undertaking the CTMPE would be assigned to supervisors/facilitators who would review their project works. The project takes a maximum of five months for completion. The project work is done at participant's own convenient time after the classroom version and sent to the supervisor via email - there would also be a email communication with the supervisor regarding corrections and recommendations.
The classroom course starts between May 20 and 30, 2011 in Accra, Kumasi, Temale (Ghana West Africa).
Project Works start June 20, 2011 and end October 20, 2011. The certificate if finally awarded at the Peace Festival, December 2011 in Accra. Log onto our page on the United Nations Online Volunteering Service for more details click here.
Qualification:
  • Must have a sound knowledge in project management
  • Must have good writing skills
  • Must be English literate
  • Must have constant access to Internet for the next six months
  • Must have at least a degree

Web Developers: Web for Peace Project
Seeking an on-line Volunteers as Web Developers in our on-going Web for Peace Project. AS an Online Volunteer, you would be responsible for website development for NGOs that have subscribed onto the WPP. The project designing of website for registered young promising NGOs in Africa.
All materials for the website development would be sent to Volunteer via email by WPP Coordinator. After designing, the volunteer would send the pages back to the Coordinator for uploading.
Qualification:
Must have a sound knowledge in web development using dreamwer to produce html, php etc.
Must have good writing skills
Must be English literate
Must have constant access to Internet for the next six months
Opportunity is available for the next 12 months.

Community Based Development Volunteering (Abroad and Inter Region)
Areas of operation:
1. Teaching in deprived basic schools, Junior and Senior High Schools in rural areas- Rural Peace Project. Dates: January 30 - April 10, May 20 - August 8, October 1 - December 15 of every year.
Duration of volunteering: Minimum of 1months (four weeks)
The below categories have a minimum volunteering duration of two weeks:
2. Community Peace Education in rural areas ( Rural Peace Project). This involves educating communities, schools pupils and the the general public on the need to use dialogue to resolve their difference through classroom teachings, focus group discussion, workshops etc. Dates: May 20 - August 8, 2011.
3. Health Campaign in Rural Communities (Health Missions - click here to see qualification ). This involves eyes and breast screening, HIV/AIDS Test, Clean-up exercises, Education on how to use herbal medicines as first aid under hygienic conditions, etc. May 20, 2011 - June 20, 2011
4. Human Rights Campaign (My Right: My Property Project) February, September-October 2011
5. Provision of support to orphanages ... May 20, 2011 - August 8, 2011

Conditions of Service:
1. All volunteers would undergo an intensive capacity building training to equip them enough for the task.

Volunteers Opportunty

The African Centre for Peace Building has designed a project ‘Health Mission Project’
to be piloted in the Brong Ahafo Region of
Ghana.
The project would tap resources of volunteers who are
public health, doctor of optometry, and rural development, nursing and
community health, eye and breast specialists to educate the rural
inhabitants on how:

1. To prevent the spread of water borne diseases and improve sanitation
2. The rural inhabitants should use local herbal medicine as a ‘first aims’ under a hygienic condition.
3. Diagnose and provide basic medicine for the rural dwellers
4. Students and pupils in the communities on self maintenance especially in the adolescents

Description of Activities:

* Community mass public education of health, Water & sanitation issues
* Schools pupils health and self maintenance issues
* Massive clean-up exercise with the involvement of volunteers, schools pupils and communities folks
* Eyes and breast screening
* Provision of free reading glasses and basic eye care medicine
* HIV/AIDS test
* National Health Insurance Registration Exercise
